OUR MISSION

The Burbage Theatre Company is a semi-professional organization committed to producing professional-quality productions, driven by an inventive, expert, and diverse ensemble of actors, directors, and staff.

We strive for excellence in all aspects of our work. We seek as broad an audience as possible, and to enhance the reputation we have established in the state and the region.

We excite and engage current and prospective theatre-goers by staging compelling, thought-provoking, and emotionally resonant stories. Marked by a trademarked irreverence, our productions explore the immense variety of the human experience. Dedicated to keeping theatre affordable and accessible, we uphold initiatives that remove barriers and ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience live performance.

Burbage strives to foster a climate of purposeful inclusion of all people regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or national origin.

We are committed to building a safe, supportive, and creative community where artists can grow and thrive. Through mission-driven productions, we aim to provide a professional pathway for local talent, empowering individuals to develop their craft in an environment rich with collaboration and possibility.

About burbage Theatre co

Burbage Theatre Co is a 501(c)3 nonprofit theatre organization Based on Blacksstone avenue in Pawtucket, RI.

Burbage was started by four actors who wanted to take the craft of acting out of the classroom and into their own hands.

We believe that acting comes first.

We believe the Theatre's continued relevance as an artistic institution is best perpetuated

by building productions around the collaboration of an expert ensemble of storytellers.

We put acting first as it is our conviction that it is the responsibility of the actor

to activate thought and inner movement in their audience.

The Burbage theatre co is composed entirely of homegrown RI talent.

Artists from across Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts.

How We Started

OUR HISTORY

The Burbage Theatre Co began at Rhode Island College in North Providence, RI
when four students of the theatre, both within and without the classroom,
decided to produce their own work and take their understanding of acting and storytelling into their own hands.
This led to our first production, 'It's Not that Way It's Over Here", an evening of two absurdist one-act plays,
'The Bald Soprano" by Eugene Ionesco, and an original short entitled "Stalemate".

Over the following five years Burbage produced fourteen productions in such spaces as
Bishop Connolly High School (Fall River, MA), Perishable Theatre, The Artists' Exchange,
and the William Hall Library auditorium.

In 2015, Burbage entered into residency at AURORA Providence, a multipurpose venue and cocktail bar formerly located on Westminster Street in downtown Providence.  Over two years, Burbage produced two full,
four play seasons (Seasons 5 & 6), including including the work of Paula Vogel, Will Eno, Kurt Vonnegut Jr, and William Shakespeare.

In 2017, Burbage began our 8th Season at Aurora Providence with a production of Bertolt Brecht's 'Galileo',
but in tandem with the unfortunate and abrupt closing of Aurora Providence,
we announced our partnership with the Pawtucket-based 'TEN31 Productions'.

Now in our own space at 59 Blackstone Avenue, Burbage strives to stage our most ambitious productions yet.

Burbage is proud to call Pawtucket, RI it's home and to be a part of such a
diverse and flourishing artistic community.
